A 23-year-old Columbia man was in critical condition last night at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center after a motorcycle accident early yesterday on Route 100, Howard County police said.

Police said Stephen Henri Maccragh of the 5500 block of Vantage Point Road was driving west on Route 100 approaching the Long Gate Parkway exit just after 1:30 a.m. when he lost control of the motorcycle and skidded several hundred feet down the left-hand shoulder.

After he fell from the motorcycle, it continued across the highway and onto the far shoulder, police said.
