Weekend at Pimlico

Gates open at 10:30 a.m. today for Kentucky Derby Day at Pimlico. A special early first-race post time of 12:35 p.m. is set for Pimlico's live racing card. Fans can wager on and watch the Kentucky Derby. Post time for the Derby is 6:07 p.m.

Pimlico is offering 11 races today, highlighted by the $75,000 Woodlawn Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/16 miles on the turf. Twelve betting interests will start, including an entry. The most experienced turf horses in the Woodlawn are Monarch Stables' Tom The River Rat and Herman Heinlein's Mr Notebook.

In six tries on the grass, Tom The River Rat is 2-1-2. He finished third in the Robsphere Stakes at Florida's Gulfstream Park in his most recent start. Leading rider Ramon Dominguez will ride. Mr Notebook is also stakes-tested with a 2-2-1 record in six starts on grass. He recently led to the final furlong in the Bal Harbour Stakes at Hialeah Park, where he tired to finish third. Mark Johnston will ride.

Tomorrow's card is topped by the $40,000 Ben Cohen Stakes. Eleven older horses will race five furlongs on the turf. Augustin Stable's Grangeville, heads the lineup.
