Educational nonprofit plans Children's Fair on Saturday

Camp Blaze, a local nonprofit organization that runs family-oriented educational programs, will hold its annual Children's Fair and Town Meeting from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Big Vanilla Athletic Club, 1209 Ritchie Highway in Arnold.

Businesses and agencies will have booths and displays with information about family health, education and entertainment. The free event also will feature a town meeting at 9:30 a.m. with legislators and county officials.

Adrian Branch, a former National Basketball Association player and University of Maryland star, will give a speech encouraging children to be "choosers, not losers."

Children's activities will include a rock-climbing wall and moon bounce, a pitching-speed attraction provided by the Bowie Baysox, and the county's Fire Safety House exhibit. Baltimore Ravens football mascot Poe and the Baysox team's Louie also are scheduled to attend.

There will be prizes, and a silent auction for items including computers, tours of the capitol buildings in Annapolis and Washington, amusement park passes and family getaways.

Boating safety course set by Friends of B&A Trail

Friends of the B&A Trail will present a three-part Maryland Basic Boating Safety Course from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. May 14, 18 and 21 in the top-floor meeting room of the Earleigh Heights fire station on Ritchie Highway.

The course covers basics of safe boating, required safety equipment and right-of-way rules on the water. Those successfully completing the course receive a certificate of boater education required of most people operating boats in state waterways.

Advance registration is required, with payment of a $15 fee, in person, at the B&A Trail Park office on Earleigh Heights Road.

Club seeks exhibitors, vendors for spring show

Vendors and crafts exhibitors are being sought for the Kiwanis Club of Severna Park's spring flea market and craft show, to be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 19 at Pasadena United Methodist Church, 61 Ritchie Highway.

Spaces are $12, or $14 with a table. For reservations, send a check to Kiwanis, P.O. Box 72, Severna Park 21146. Proceeds from the event support local charities, youth groups and service organizations.
