Sheep and Wool Festival

Ever wanted to see a working sheepdog demonstration? If so, you're in luck. This weekend, the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival will feature such demonstrations and more at the Howard County Fairgrounds. Visitors can watch sheep shows, see a sheep breed display, shop for wool and wool-related products from nearly 300 vendors, take part in fiber and farm equipment auctions and participate in contests. A total of 16 contests will be offered, some for teams, some for individuals; all will have adult and child divisions. Contests include sheep- to-shawl, spinning and weaving, skein and garment, and photography.

Festival directors are asking people not to attend if they have traveled in the past five days to any country where foot-and-mouth disease has been found.

The festival runs 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at the Howard County Fairgrounds, Route 144, West Friendship. Free. No pets allowed. Call 410-531-3647 or access www.sheepandwool.org on the Web.
