PTA council holding parent workshop today on Internet safety

The PTA Council of Howard County is sponsoring a workshop, "Parent's Guide to Internet Safety," from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. today in Room B37 of the Applications and Research Lab, 10920 Route 108, Ellicott City.

Admission is free.

Head Start is accepting applications for 2001-2002

The Community Action Council Head Start Program is accepting applications for the 2001-2002 school year. Applications will be accepted for children born in 1997 and 1998 who will turn 3 before Dec. 31 of the program year. Children with documented disabilities are encouraged to apply.

Head Start is a federally funded child development preschool program. Full-day child care services are offered, and limited transportation is available.

Service awards reception for school workers is today

The Howard County school system is holding its Annual Service Awards Reception today for employees who have worked for the county for 15 to 35 years.

The program will be at 4:30 p.m. today at Wilde Lake Interfaith Center, 10431 Twin Rivers Road.

A reception In Honor of Excellence will be held at 4:30 p.m May 9 at Wilde Lake High School, 5470 Trumpeter Road.

Recognition will be given to recipients and nominees for Agnes Meyer Outstanding Teacher Awards, Shirley R. Mullinix Award of Excellence, Maryland Teacher of the Year Award, Sallie Mae First Class Teacher Award, Distinguished Assistant Award and Outstanding Office Professional Recognition Award.
