A 38-year-old Elkridge man accused of shooting at two 13-year-old boys who were following him through woods behind Mayfield Avenue this month was indicted yesterday on attempted-murder charges.

A Howard County grand jury returned a 10-count indictment charging William K. Craig of the 6500 block of Arrow Way with two counts each of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, as well as two handgun charges.

According to police, three boys were near a stream April 1 and saw a man on a hill above them. When he walked away, two of the boys decided to follow, said Howard County police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn.

The man looked back at the boys and pointed a gun at them, and the boys began running, she said. As they ran, they heard gunshots, she said.

Police later found Craig in the woods with a 9 mm weapon, according to police and prosecutors.
