Md. championships in bench press to be held on May 19

Entries are now being accepted for the 20th annual Maryland High School Bench Press Championships on May 19.

Twelve weight classes ranging from 120 pounds to unlimited are being offered. Awards will be handed to the top three finishers in each weight class, and an Outstanding Lifter award will be presented to the person who presses the highest percentage of weight above his actual body weight and wins his weight class.

The Bowling Brook Preparatory School in Keymar will be this year's host. Weigh-in begins at 8 a.m.; the competition starts at 9:30 a.m.

Last season, Bowling Brook won the team competition. Jesse Perry of Westminster was named Most Valuable Lifter.

The entry fee is $10, and the deadline is May 9. Make checks payable to Bowling Brook Prep and mail it to Mike Sunday, Bowling Brook Prep School, P.O. Box 100, Keymar, MD 21757. For more information, call 410-876-0232 or 410-775-7881.
