April 24, 2001

Howard County police are investigating the crash of a stolen van Saturday in Elkridge that left an 18-year-old Baltimore man dead.

Gary Lamont Lee of the 300 block of W. Lanvale St. was thrown from the Dodge van when it flipped just after 5:45 a.m., police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The other occupant of the van, Nathaniel Sellers, 22, of the 900 block of N. Rosedale St. in Baltimore, was treated at Maryland Shock Trauma Center and released.

Police later learned that the van had been stolen from a Baltimore church. Sellers was arrested and charged with auto theft, theft, unauthorized use and destruction of property, police said.

Police are trying to determine which of the men was driving the van, Howard County police spokeswoman Sherry Llewellyn said yesterday. Neither was in the vehicle when officers arrived.

Police said the driver apparently lost control of the van as he exited from eastbound Route 100 onto Interstate 95.
