Maximum daily rate to park in airport's garage raised to $30

Parking rates at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport garage have been increased to minimize long-term use and increase available spaces for people dropping off or meeting travelers.

The daily rate for the garage is now $30 - a $5 increase that will affect people who leave their cars in the garage for more than seven hours or overnight. Rates will remain the same for hourly parking in the garage and all other lots. Parking for the first half-hour in the garage is free, and each half-hour thereafter is $2.

The rate increase could create as many as 600 additional spaces for short-term parking in the garage.

The express-service parking lot also offers parking near the terminal, and its cost remains $3 an hour, with a maximum charge of $13 a day. The lot is at Elkridge Landing Road and Aviation Boulevard.

Rates at the blue and green satellite lots on Aviation Boulevard remain $1 an hour and $7 a day. Economy gold satellite parking on Dorsey Road is $1 an hour and $4 a day. The seventh day is free at these satellite lots.

Overnight runway closures slated to begin today

Overnight closures are scheduled for a primary runway at BWI to allow scheduled maintenance and improvements.

Runway 10/28, used for commercial jet traffic, is scheduled to close each night about 11 p.m. and reopen at 6 a.m. starting today and ending May 8. Some communities around the airport may observe changes in air traffic patterns, particularly during the weekend runway closure.

If inclement weather prevents the completion of work during this period, additional closures between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. will be necessary until the work is done.

The Maryland Aviation Administration coordinates its efforts with the Federal Aviation Administration to limit runway closures that affect communities around BWI. For updates on closures and construction: 410-859-7021.

Construction to close one exit lane Wednesday

The outer lane on the lower-level roadway at BWI will be closed from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday for construction. This closure will reduce the merge area of the car rental exit ramp from the parking garage into the exit lanes.

Construction cones will be in place to indicate the closed area. Temporary lane closure is necessary while tests are performed on the emergency generator for the parking garage.
