Giants: Optioned OF Calvin Murray to Triple-A Fresno. Recalled P Chad Zerbe from Fresno. Mets: IF David Howard retired.

Pirates: Activated P Terry Mulholland. Sent P Marc Wilkins to Triple-A Nashville.

Rockies: Claimed IF Kevin Nicholson off waivers from Padres. Designated IF Juan Sosa for assignment. Signed IF Kevin Stocker to minor-league contract. Sent SS Neifi Perez to Triple-A Tucson for extended spring traing and rehabilitation.

Yankees: Received P Julio de Paula as player to be named from deal last month that sent P Craig Dingman to Rockies.

Basketball

NBA: Fined Trail Blazers C Rasheed Wallace $10,000 for failing to make himself available to media during designated media interview periods. Fined Trail Blazers $25,000 for failing to ensure that its players comply with league media interview rules.

Magic: Signed coach Doc Rivers to contract extension through 2004-05.

College

New Jersey Tech: Men's basketball coach James Catalano resigned.

Purdue: Sophomore basketball C Adam Wetzel will transfer to another school.

Utah: Sophomore basketball F Mike Puzey decided to leave school.

Utah State: Signed men's basketball coach Stew Morrill to 10-year contract extension through 2011.

Football

Broncos: Signed CB Darryll Lewis, who had been with Chargers, to one-year contract.

Dolphins: Re-signed restricted free-agent WR Jeff Ogden to one-year contract.

Jaguars: Signed S Kerry Cooks and LB Joseph Tuipala.

Lions: Signed unrestricted free-agent long snapper Brad Banta to five-year deal. Re-signed CB Lamar Campbell, former Ravens OL James Atkins and WR Andre' Rone. The Lions also have released WR Terrence McCaskey.

Packers: Signed CB Hurley Tarver. Traded 47th overall pick in draft for 49ers' 41st overall selection and moved up in third round, sending 71st overall pick to 49ers for 80th and 82nd picks. Green Bay also got fourth-rounder by sending sixth-round pick (179th) and seventh-rounder (222nd) for San Francisco's 105th overall selection.
