Kurt Nordhoff

Mount Hebron, lacrosse

At 5 feet 10, 153 pounds, Nordhoff isn't big, but he certainly played huge in the Gerry Case Memorial tournament at Broadneck. He compiled 15 points in two games to help the No. 7 Vikings beat two ranked teams on the same afternoon. Nordhoff, a junior who missed all of last season with a stress fracture in his back, scored four goals, including the game-winner, and had four assists in a 10-9 win over No. 10 Broadneck. Hours later, he scored three goals and had four assists in a 9-6 victory over No. 12 C. Milton Wright in the championship game.

Kierney Hiteshew

Oakland Mills, track

Hiteshew was named Outstanding Female Performer at the highly competitive Knights Invitational track and field meet Tuesday at North County High for pole vaulting 10 feet, 6 inches, her personal best and a meet record. Despite battling a hip pointer, Hiteshew used a new 13-foot pole to eclipse the old meet record of 9-4 that she set a year ago. An All-Metro Class 2A-1A state indoor champion, she is the No. 1 dance student at Oakland Mills. The senior carries a 3.71 grade-point average and a 1,200 score on the SAT.
