Strawberry spread

Spring marks the return of fresh strawberries to the grocery shelves. For an easy spread to slather on your breakfast toast, combine sliced strawberries and sugar in a small bowl and let set at room temperature for 15 to 30 minutes, then mash lightly with a fork. Add freshly grated orange peel or vanilla extract, if desired.
