Indians update The Indians are one game below .500 but began last night four behind the first-place Minnesota Twins in the American League Central. Juan Gonzalez ranks among the league leaders in home runs (five) and RBIs (15). These teams already are familiar with each other, having played three games in Cleveland beginning April 6. The Indians won twice, by the same 4-3 score. They handed Mercedes his first loss by reaching him for four runs in 6 1/3 innings. Gonzalez and Jim Thome hit home runs, as the Indians rallied from a 3-0 deficit. The Orioles blew another 3-0 lead on April 8, with since-departed Calvin Maduro taking the loss in relief of McElroy after giving up two runs in 1 2/3 innings. Sabathia, making his major-league debut, allowed all three runs in the first inning on a homer by Jeff Conine before pitching into the sixth. Hentgen and Colon dueled through eight innings on April 7, leaving with the score tied 2-2 before Orioles backup catcher Fernando Lunar hit a two-run opposite-field double off Steve Reed in the 11th for a 4-2 victory.
