150 Years of Howard History

April 17, 2001

Howard County, which began July 4, 1851, as a western outpost of neighboring Anne Arundel County, is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

The Howard County edition of The Sun will publish a column on county history and the people who were part of it Tuesdays during the school year.

This week's column, on Page 3B, is a look at Hilton, an Ellicott City-area community that blossomed for a time and then died, along with its nickname, "Helltown."
