Man bitten by pit bull is treated at hospital

April 16, 2001|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

Police were investigating an incident in which a Hampden man was bitten yesterday by a pit bull when he tried to rescue his pet cocker spaniel that had been attacked by the animal.

Police spokesman Agent Martin Bartness said Susan LeBrun of the 3300 block of Falls Road was walking the spaniel near her home about 11 a.m. when the pit bull attacked the dog. Bartness said LeBrun's son, Dennis Jr., 19, beat off the pit bull with a fence post and a metal pipe and was bitten on the legs and feet. He was treated at Union Memorial Hospital.

Bartness said the spaniel survived. He said the pit bull was traced to its owner in the 3300 block of Hickory Ave. and was taken to a shelter for rabies tests.
