Community forum tomorrow to address heroin addiction

Heroin Action Coalition of Carroll County will hold a Heroin Alert community forum at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow at the County Office Building.

The Community Service Unit of the New Castle County, Pa., police will present a program depicting images of heroin addiction and its effects.

The public is invited. The County Office Building is at 225 N. Center St. in Westminster.

Public meetings planned to discuss sewage system

Carroll County Government will hold a series of public meetings to discuss the possible development of a sewage collection and treatment system in the Detour, Mayberry and Union Mills areas.

The Carroll County Health Department, the Carroll County grants office, and the county Planning, Public Works, and Enterprise and Recreation Services departments will be represented at the meetings.

The meetings, all at 7 p.m., will be held:

Tuesday at Elmer Wolfe Elementary School cafeteria, 119 N. Main St. in Union Bridge, for Detour residents.

May 1 at First Church of God, 2534 Mayberry Road in Mayberry, for Mayberry residents.

May 15 at Charles Carroll Elementary School, 3719 Littlestown Pike in Union Mills, for residents of Union Mills.

Recycling center offers reimbursements for cans

Carroll County Recycling Center offers reimbursements for aluminum cans at Northern Landfill.

The center is open for reimbursements from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays. Call for rates.

The center accepts glass food and beverage containers; plastics bottles No. 1 and 2; aluminum and bi-metal cans; mixed paper and cardboard; car and truck batteries; and textiles.

Food and beverage containers must be rinsed. Drop-off hours are 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays.

Northern Landfill also offers free mulch and compost to county residents with proof of residency.
