Basketball challenge pits area vs. U.S.

A team of college-bound boys basketball players from the Baltimore area will face a team of national stars in the featured game of the first Baltimore Charm City Challenge on Saturday, April 28.

The Baltimore team, headed by North Carolina-bound Melvin Scott of Southern, will be announced on Tuesday. The team will be selected and coached by Towson Catholic's Mike Daniel. The game will begin at 8:15 p.m.

A preliminary game will be played between two of the area's top boys summer traveling teams: Baltimore Blue and Baltimore Select. Committed players on the U.S. team:

The Sun is compiling statistics for boys and girls lacrosse, baseball and softball for publication of area leaders. Coaches or team statisticians should call 410-332-6786 or 1-800-829-8000, ext. 6786, between 10 p.m. Fridays and 6 p.m. Saturdays. Leave a message with the name and spelling of the player and team. For baseball and softball, we need at-bats, hits, average, runs scored, RBIs, stolen bases, doubles, triples and home runs. For pitchers, we need wins, losses and ERA. For lacrosse, we need goals, assists and points. For goalies, we need games, shots and saves. Leave a name and number.
