The senior shortstop had a powerful week at the plate, hitting three home runs in three games, all wins, as the Gaels defeated No. 6 Curley, Spalding and McDonogh to hold on to the No. 2 ranking in the area. Sargent hit two home runs as the Gaels defeated Curley, 4-0, had a double in a 17-2 win over Spalding, and hit another home run in a 6-4 victory against McDonogh. Sargent, who hit nine home runs last season while earning All-Metro honors, will attend the University of Maryland next fall on a baseball scholarship.

Erin Masterson

Annapolis, track

Masterson was named Outstanding Female Athlete of the Woodlawn Warrior Invitational Saturday by winning both the 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters. The senior outkicked Lee McDuff of River Hill to win the 3,200 in a personal-best time of 11:35. She won the 1,600 in 5:15.6. Masterson was an All-Metro indoor runner, setting the Class 3A state record in the 1,600 at 5:09.9. She is ranked No. 7 in her class with a 4.3 GPA. She scored 1,310 on her SAT and has verbally committed to William and Mary.
