Cooking with Elmo

There's more on the menu than chocolate chip cookies when Elmo and the other residents of Sesame Street meet Emeril Lagasse in "Elmo's Magic Cookbook," a Food Network special this Sunday. Lagasse teaches Elmo and friends how to make pizza. The show airs at 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. and again at 4 p.m. April 21 and 10 a.m. April 22.

A Thai celebration

This weekend, stir up some Pad Thai Noodles to celebrate Songkran, the Thai New Year. Thai Kitchen food products is offering a cooking kit with noodles, sauces, rice, curry pastes and a cookbook for $36.94. Call 800-967-THAI between noon and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday to order.

Old canned food

While you're doing your spring cleaning, don't forget the pantry, advises Ellie Krieger, a registered dietitian and host of the WBAL-TV show "Living Better." Canned foods that have been in the pantry more than two years should be discarded, she says.
