Syracuse 7, Rochester 3: Cole Liniak's eighth-inning grand slam helped the SkyChiefs to a 7-3 win over the Red Wings in the Frontier Field home opener.
The Wings went ahead early, helped by Wady Almonte's two-run homer in the first. Almonte drove in another run in the third, and John Bale's pitching (five innings, five hits, one earned run, a walk and four strikeouts) left the Wings in good shape until the seventh.
Liniak's grand slam off Red Wings reliever Chad Paronto made a winner out of SkyChiefs reliever John Frascatore. Matt DeWitt picked up the save for Syracuse.
