Police seek laundry facility escapee

April 01, 2001

Maryland State Police were searching yesterday for an inmate who escaped from the Central Laundry Facility in Sykesville.

Gary Enrico Scaff Jr. jumped out of a Maryland Division of Correction vehicle when it arrived at the facility, and fled into a wooded area there Friday. Scaff was returning from an area hospital where he had been treated for an asthma attack, police said. Police searched the area with dogs Friday but were unable to find Scaff.

Inmates are often placed at the facility as part of a prerelease program.

Anyone with information about Scaff's whereabouts is asked to contact police.
