Pupils at Pot Spring chalk up 1,450 books
TIMONIUM -- Children at Pot Spring Elementary School in Baltimore County have read hundreds of books in the second phase of the school's "Reading Tree" effort, in which pupils earn leaves and snowflakes that adorn a painted tree in the school's lobby.
Pupils in pre-kindergarten through second grade earn one snowflake for each picture book or one-chapter book. Those in third through fifth grades must read 150 pages to earn a snowflake.
As of mid-month, the winter tree was adorned with 175 snowflakes, representing 1,450 books read by 108 participating children.
