Grant Halford

St. Paul's, lacrosse

The 6-foot, 195-pound senior had an impressive week for the top-ranked Crusaders, scoring seven goals in two games as St. Paul's defeated Kent, 15-6, and No. 6 Gilman, 11-4. Halford, who was an All-Metro football defensive back this past fall, scored three goals against Kent, a highly regarded team from Denver, Colo., then found the net four times against Gilman and had an assist. Halford, who will play lacrosse at Loyola College, also played excellent defense in the wins. "Grant is just realizing how dominating he can be," said St. Paul's coach Mitch Whiteley.

Becky Trumbo

Liberty, girls lacrosse

Trumbo scored five goals on six shots and added four assists Friday night in the No. 8 Lions' 13-5 opening-day victory over C. Milton Wright. The junior was a second-team All-Metro performer on attack last season when she scored 57 goals and had 37 assists. Trumbo, an All-Carroll County performer her freshman and sophomore seasons, is being recruited by top Division I programs. The junior is a National Honor Society member with a 3.7 GPA and also plays volleyball and basketball.
