Community College to hold annual job, career fair Thursday

Howard Community College will hold its annual Job/Career Fair from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday in the Galleria of the Science and Technology Building, 10901 Little Patuxent Parkway, Columbia. The fair is being held in cooperation with the Howard County Chamber of Commerce.

Representatives from 100 companies will be available to speak with students and area residents about full- and part-time jobs, including summer employment.

Participants can bring resumes for review by HCC career counselors and can register on HCC Job On-Line, an Internet database that matches job seekers with employers.

A Business after Business networking event will be held at 5 p.m. April 24 in the college's Galleria. The HCC Jazz Bank will perform, and door prizes will be given away.

The cost is $10 for Chamber members; $20 for nonmembers.

Companies contribute to reading program

Comcast, Constellation Energy Group, EVI Inc. and the Rouse Foundation have made contributions to the Howard County Chamber of Commerce's "Share Time and Read" (STAR) program. The reading enrichment program, which began as a pilot at Dasher Green Elementary School in Columbia in the fall, connects adult volunteers from the business community with first- and second-graders in tutoring sessions.
