Dodgers: Optioned P Luke Prokopec and P Onan Masaoka to Triple-A Albuquerque. Assigned former Orioles P Doug Linton, P Todd Rizzo and P Matt Whisenant to Albuquerque.

Expos: Optioned IF Tomas De La Rosa and former Orioles IF Ryan Minor to Triple-A Ottawa. Sent P Terry Burrows, former Orioles P Bobby Munoz and OF Curtis Pride (Silver Spring) to minor-league camp.

Marlins: Paid financial considerations to Blue Jays to complete Jan. 16 trade that sent OF Chad Mottola to Marlins for player to be named. Optioned IF Nate Rolison to Triple-A Calgary and P Blaine Neal to Double-A Portland. Assigned OF Cesar Crespo to minor-league camp.

Rangers: Optioned P Aaron Myette and 1B Carlos Pena to Triple-A Oklahoma. Reassigned C Luis Taveras to minor-league camp.

Nets: Signed G Doug Overton to 10-day contract.

Nuggets: Activated former Wizards G Calbert Cheaney. Waived F Mark Strickland.

Central Connecticut State: Named Paul Schudel football coach.

Eastern Mennonite: Named Larry Martin athletic director, effective July 1. Martin has been associate athletic director for external affairs at Towson since 1995, and before that was GM of Single-A Frederick Keys for six years.

Broncos: Signed free-agent DT Leon Lett, who had been with Cowboys.

Patriots: Signed unrestricted free-agent DE Anthony Pleasant, a former Raven, and CB Terrance Shaw.

Rams: Released S Keith Lyle.

U.S. Soccer: Named Jerry Smith coach of under-21 women's national team.
