Scholarly views

There are food magazines for the health-conscious, for gourmands and for cooking novices. Now there's a magazine for food scholars. Gastronomica: The Journal of Food and Culture discusses the history and cultural impact of food through essays, poetry, cartoons and photography. The quarterly magazine's cover price is $10.

Family mealtimes

A new survey finds that the family dinner hour has shrunk to less than 30 minutes. The study, commissioned by Lipton Sizzle and Stir, found that most families eat dinner together at least three times a week and that working moms consider the family meal an important way to spend quality time with their children.
