The Archbishop Curley baseball team defeated Wallenpaupack of Pennsylvania yesterday, 5-0, as Al Frank earned his 500th high school coaching victory in a rain-soaked game at Curley.

The win is the latest milestone in a coaching career that has spanned 39 years at the East Baltimore high school.

Frank has managed the Friars to five Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association A Conference titles, his most recent one coming in the same season (1999) he was named the All-Metro Coach of the Year.

"It's an honor to win this many, it's a tribute to the kids who have played on all the teams at Curley," said Frank, who was inducted into the Maryland Baseball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1996, and ranks second in career wins only to Riverdale Baptist's Terry Terrill, who is approaching 600 victories.

The Friars (1-0) were led by Brooks Norris, who pitched four shutout innings for the win.,
