BankAnnapolis shares the wealth with local charities

BankAnnapolis may be moving in style, but it hasn't forgotten about those of lesser means.

Last week, when the bank moved its corporate headquarters to 1000 Bestgate Road, it donated old furniture - worth about $40,000 - to local charities.

Hospice of the Chesapeake in Millersville is receiving nearly $24,000 worth of items, including office cubicles, conference tables, executive desks, bookcases, sofas and chairs from the bank's reception area. Jeanne Malicki, director of administrative services for the hospice, said it will help immensely. Before the donation, a staff of 11 used two desks.

BankAnnapolis also will donate furniture to the YMCA of Central Maryland and the Calvary Temple.

3 companies announce new leases in Arundel

Three companies announced last week that they were staying for the long term in Anne Arundel.

Ciena, the Linthicum-based telecommunications powerhouse, leased the Handleman Building at 521 McCormick Drive in the International Trade Center. The 10-year lease gives the wireless player 112,000 additional square feet of space. Ciena also signed for 60,000 more square feet in Hock Business Park.

General Dynamics Electronic Systems has leased 92,000 square feet of space in the national Business Park in Annapolis Junction, making it the lead tenant in the 275-acre park near routes 295 and 32.

The company leased an additional 10,000 square feet in Linthicum's Airport Square facility. First Service Networks, a technical maintenance company, picked 25,560 square feet in the Annapolis Junction business park and 18,858 square feet in Airport Square.
