A stolen car driven through the entrance of an Eastern Shore chicken house caused an estimated $6,000 to $8,000 in damage and left up to 27,000 of the birds dead, state police said.

Someone in a 1984 gold Buick Century drove into the chicken house on Colona Road in Pocomoke between 11 p.m. Thursday and 7 a.m. Friday, police said. The car, which had been reported stolen from Marion in Somerset County last week, was found abandoned nearby.

Maryland State Police ask that anyone with information about the case call the Berlin barracks at 410-641-3101 or the Princess Anne barracks at 410-651-3102.

The Delmarva Poultry Justice Alliance is offering a $500 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
