Group sponsoring weeklong wine tour in Calif. next week

Antrim 1844 Country Inn is sponsoring a California Wine Country Experience trip March 18-24.

California Wine Country culture, food and wine will be explored in this weeklong trip. Wine Country Tours, a specialist in the Napa and Sonoma counties, is host for the trip.

Travelers can expect private winery tours and tastings, interaction with personnel, picnics at the wineries and wine and food pairings at well-known restaurants. Antrim will handle trip details. Reservations are required. Information: 800-858-1844.

Arts council planning trip to see `Aida' in Manhattan

The Carroll County Arts Council will take a bus trip to see Disney's "Aida" on Broadway on March 21.

The Tony-award winning opera has received rave reviews for its telling of the immortal love story.

The cost is $120 for members and $125 for nonmembers and includes transportation, continental breakfast, orchestra seat, bus snack and gratuities.

For those who wish to go to New York for the day, but not to the opera, a sightseeing-only bus trip will be available for $40 for members and $45 for nonmembers.

Travelers can spend the day as they wish. The bus will make stops at Times Square, Rockefeller Center and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Both buses leave at 7 a.m. and return at 10 p.m.

Artists being sought for Westminster arts show

The Carroll County Arts Council invites artists to submit their work for sale and display at the Art in the Park 2001 to be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 2 at Westminster City Park.

All artists selected to participate will be eligible for cash awards totaling $800, including a prize for Best New Artist, awarded to someone entering the competition for the first time. Acceptable mediums include oil, acrylic, watercolor, sculpture, photography, drawing, collage, mixed media, prints and crafts.

Fees for display spaces are $35 for members and $50 for nonmembers (includes a complimentary membership). Artists may use their own display systems or one provided free by the Arts Council. Deadline for submissions is April 23. For guidelines and application, send a No. 10 self-addressed stamped envelope to the Carroll County Arts Council, 15 E. Main St., Westminster 21157.

Hamlisch set to perform March 24 in Hanover, Pa.

Musician Marvin Hamlisch will perform in concert at 8 p.m. March 24 at the Eichelberger Performing Arts Center in Hanover, Pa.

As a composer, he has written major works for film, stage, recordings and concert halls. He also is a conductor, pianist and entertainer. Hamlisch has won three Oscars, four Grammies, three Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards.

Singing with him will be Stephen Lehew, who has performed on and off Broadway.
