Oakland Mills' two-time state champion heavyweight Robert Scott pinned Loyola's state champ Colin Doyle, then overcame a 5-0 first-period deficit against 4A-3A champ Akil Patterson to earn the Outstanding Upperweight award in last night's Senior All-Star Classic at River Hill High School.

After stopping Doyle in 3:10, Scott survived being headlocked on his back for nearly two minutes by Patterson before emerging for a 14-6 decision.

"Akil's done that to me before, but this time, he set it up with a lateral drop, which I blocked. It was an accomplishment just getting off my back," said the 220-pound Scott, the smaller wrestler by about 55 pounds.

"It's a friendly rivalry," Scott said. "He's better at Greco-Roman, I'm better in freestyle, but now, I know I'm better in folk-style."

Hammond's 2A-1A champ Ryan Mackin (135) scored an overtime takedown for a 3-1 victory over two-time 4A-3A champ Adam DeCosmo, avenging an earlier loss. He won, 9-5, over Calvert Hall's state runner-up Kevin King (135), who dropped from 140, where he was third at National Preps, to win Outstanding Lowerweight honors. King edged DeCosmo, 7-4.

"I came out here to have a little fun, didn't want to come unless Adam was here to wrestle," said Mackin, who is 2-1 against DeCosmo. "I felt I was in better shape than both the guys I wrestled, which was a key."

In other bouts: Mount St. Joseph's state champ Ryan Herwig (140) routed 2A-1A runner-up Jeremiah Guard, 16-0, then pinned Watkins Mill's Cade McCarthy in 4:47; Curley's Kevin Artis (119) edged Westminster's Adam Tenney, 8-6, then routed Loch Raven's J. R. Guevera, 18-5; and Annapolis Area Christian's Luke Palumbo (125) blew out Broadneck's state runner-up Jake Dove, 14-1, then pinned Oakland Mills' Terrence Allen in 1:59.

Paint Branch's champ Adam James (152) bounced Northern of Garrett's state champ Brandon Kamp, 11-4, then blew out St. Mary's Ryken's state champ Tony Antonioli, 9-1; Westlake's 4A-3A champ Jon Peters (130) edged Loyola's state runner-up Danny Natterman, 9-5, and Atholton's state champ, Bryan Radik, 11-8.
