Steve Conrad

North Harford, wrestling

The 103-pound sophomore claimed the Class 2A-1A state title with a 9-8 decision over Jeff Plasse of Oakland Mills. Conrad, who captured the Harford County crown, upended two top seeds in sophomore and East region champ Artie Kaehler of Kent County and junior and South region champ Doug Ramsey of Atholton to reach the state finals. Conrad, who missed most of last season while nursing an injury, put the finishing touches on a 32-3 campaign and became his school's first state champ since Glenn Allen in 1983.

Najmah Fauntleroy

Arundel, basketball

A 6-foot senior forward, Fauntleroy had 10 points and 23 rebounds as the Wildcats topped Broadneck, 53-42, to capture the Class 4A East region championship. Arundel will defend its state title this week at UMBC. Fauntleroy, who has signed to play at Delaware State next season, had a career-high 30 points and added six rebounds and three blocks in a 77-49 semifinal win over Westminster. In a 68-45 quarterfinal-round victory over Glen Burnie, Fauntleroy contributed 15 points and 13 rebounds. Fauntleroy also is on the school volleyball team.
