An Annapolis District Court judge ordered yesterday that a teen-ager charged with murder in the shooting death of another youth be held without bail.

In a brief hearing, Judge Paul A. Hackner declined to set bail for LoMichael Delvon Booze, 17, of the 700 block of Newtowne Drive in Annapolis.

Booze is charged as an adult with first-degree murder in the Jan. 12 shooting death of Alexander David Henderson, of the 1800 block of Chatfield Terrace in Severn. He also is charged with seven related offenses, including armed robbery and assault. Another teen-ager was wounded by gunfire, and two others were beaten and kicked in the scuffle in a part of Severn designated by the state as a "hot spot," or crime-troubled area, police said.

Police said they do not know what sparked the shooting that killed the 15-year-old. Fears about tensions between students from Meade Senior High School, which the 15-year-old had attended, and Annapolis Senior High School, which Booze had attended, led officials to postpone sports events between the two schools in January.

Within days of Henderson's death, police issued a warrant for Booze. They arrested him Monday morning in a St. Margarets home after receiving a tip.

Booze also has a second-degree-assault case pending in juvenile court, a pretrial services worker at the jail told the judge yesterday.

Appearing on a closed-circuit television screen, Booze seemed calm as he told Hackner that he understood the charges and that he would not decide whether to request a preliminary hearing until he speaks with a lawyer.

Henderson and three other teen-agers were walking in the vicinity of Jacobs Road and Stillmeadows Drive outside a house where a party was being held, police said, when they encountered several other teen-agers, who robbed them of clothing and money. None of the other victims has been identified, county police said.

Also charged was Sidney Jacob Beatty, 16, of the 1700 block of Richfield Drive in Severn. He was charged as an adult Jan. 14 with three counts of robbery and four counts of assault.

Police said they do not know of a motive for the assault, other than it appears that the two groups of teen-agers came from different parts of the county, Booze and his friends from Annapolis and the victims from Severn.

Public school administrators postponed girls and boys basketball games between the two schools on the evening of Jan. 26 and rescheduled them for weekday afternoons.

In the past year, three other people have been killed near where Alexander was shot.

In June, Stanley Isaiah Johnson, 16, was charged as an adult in the fatal shooting March 1, 2000, of Dwayne Alvin Macklin, 26, who was found dying in the Meade Village housing project. His trial is scheduled for May.

On Sept. 3, police found the body of Stewart Anthony Garfield, 36, in Provinces Park.

On Nov. 15, Michelle Anita Erdman, 40, was found shot to death in her car in Pioneer City after an apparent robbery attempt.
