Bowie men fall to Smith in quarterfinals

Coppin women down Morgan State, 78-63

Antoine Sims scored 21 points and Wylie Petty added 19 to lead Johnson C. Smith to a 74-63 victory over Bowie State last night in the quarterfinals of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's tournament.

Tim Washington led Bowie State (19-9) with 13 points and 12 rebounds. The Golden Bulls improved to 23-4.


Coppin State 78, Morgan State 63: Kiesha Brooks scored a career-high 35 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lift the Eagles (11-16, 9-10) past the Bears (10-17, 10-9) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game at the Coppin Center.

Behind Brooks' 22 first-half points, Coppin shot 50 percent from the field compared to 33 percent for Morgan State and took a 39-25 lead into halftime. Jackie Johnson-Stewart scored 12 points and Javonti Jones added 10.

Drexel 75, Towson 70: Michelle Maslowski collected 28 points and 12 rebounds to lead the visiting Dragons (18-9, 13-5) past the Tigers (3-24, 2-16) in the America East Conference.

With 38 seconds left in the game and the shot clock winding down, Meghan McIntyre nailed a 12-foot jumper in the lane to give the Dragons a 73-70 edge.
