Marshall Strickland

South Carroll, basketball

The 6-foot-2 junior point guard has been the catalyst for the No. 18 Cavaliers. Strickland registered 33 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals in a 70-56 victory over Linganore last Tuesday. He followed that with a school-record 49 points and seven rebounds in a 79-65 win against Liberty last Friday. Strickland, a transfer from DeMatha, leads South Carroll in points (28.2), assists (4.6), and steals (4.0) per game. A 3.9 GPA student, he is consistently ranked among the top 25 juniors in the country.

Bridget Kimmel

Notre Dame Prep, swimming

A sophomore, Kimmel earned three gold medals and a silver at the National Catholic High School Swimming Championships last weekend at Villanova University. The 5-foot-3 Kimmel won the 100-yard backstroke (59.46 seconds), and swam the backstroke to lead off the victorious 200-yard medley relay team (1:52.97). In the 400 freestyle relay, Kimmel swam the third leg and gave the Blazers the lead for good (3:38.57). She also was second in the butterfly (57:45). A week earlier, Kimmel helped NDP to victory in the IAAM championships.
