Arthritis Foundation's Madhatters Ball

MARYLAND SCENE

February 04, 2001|By Sloane Brown

The Super Bowl was not only on the minds of many guests at the Madhatters Ball, it was also on top of their heads -- in the form of some mighty creative chapeaus with a Ravens football team theme. There was Joseph Flynn, who took the idea of a Ravens cap literally with his hat in the shape of a large purple and black bird. And Susan Sunderland, in her "The Raven Has Landed" piece, covered in black feathers, rhinestones and a bird's nest. Tim West sported a large purple and black straw sombrero, covered in big black birds and miniature football players. It was created by his wife, Christie, who wore a masterpiece -- the crown of which was a Raven's head complete with electric eyes that glowed with the team's logo.

All this "Super" spirit also gave a boost to the Arthritis Foundation, Maryland Chapter, which raised some $43,000 at the bash.
