WINE OF THE WEEK

January 31, 2001|By Michael Dresser

1999 Principessa Gavia Gavi, Villa Banfi ($12). This crisp, very dry Italian white wine is a terrific choice to serve with seafood. It's not exceedingly complex, but it offers clean, bracing flavors of lemon, slate and pears and an appealing freshness. It is a product of the gavi region's cortese grape. Drink it up this year. Don't confuse this with a lightly effervescent version called Principessa Gavia Gavi Regale, which costs more and isn't as successful.
