Student, 16, charged with carrying handgun

A female student at Fallston High School is being held in lieu of $10,000 bond at the Harford County Detention Center after she brought a handgun to school, the Harford County sheriff's department said.

The girl was arrested in the school office Wednesday, after school officials learned she had a .22-caliber handgun and ammunition, said Lt. Edward Hopkins, a spokesman for the department. The girl also had $150 and jewelry that she allegedly removed from a safe in the home of her aunt and uncle, with whom she has been living, Hopkins said.

He said that the girl intended to run away from home and told a deputy she did not intend to harm anyone with the weapon.

Kathleen Fehnel, 16, of the 800 block of Van Dyke Lane in Bel Air was charged as an adult with possession of a handgun on school property and theft, Hopkins said.
