First-hand knowledge

Washington native Becky Mode followed the adage "Write what you know" in her play "Fully Committed," which previews tonight through Sunday at Washington's Ford's Theatre and opens at 7:30 p.m. Monday. The one-man show focuses on a struggling actor eking out a living as a reservations clerk at a trendy New York restaurant, and Mode has manned phones, waited on tables and checked coats at just such restaurants herself.

At Ford's, the beleaguered clerk is played by Ethan Sandler, who also portrays the restaurant's maitre'd, chef and a host of patrons, ranging from a Mob killer to society matrons. The off-Broadway hit has been running for more than a year in New York.

Show times at Ford's, 511 Tenth St. N.W., Washington, are 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, with matinees at 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, through Feb. 25. Tickets are $27-$43, except for previews (7:30 p.m. tonight through Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday), which are $25. Call 202-347-4833.
