More honors for James Rooths, nonpareil punt returner for Shepherd College the last several years. The ex-Carver High standout has been named to the Football Gazette's All-American team for Division II. At the same time, Rooths was named the division's specialist player of the year after capping his career with 10 punt return touchdowns.

Another Shepherd player, Chris Field (Severna Park), received honorable mention All- America for his work as the team's leading tackler from his defensive end position.

Meaghan Hession (Eastern Tech) has received All-Academic staus in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference for maintaining a 3.5 grade point average as a sophomore occupational therapy major while having a strong cross country season for Misericordia (Pa.) College.

Senior Jakia Ervin (Lake Clifton) continues her climb up through the all-time assists list for Syracuse. With five assists in a game against UConn, Ervin now has 412 over the last four seasons and is No. 5 all-time even though she didn't play point guard her freshman season.

Jessica Mentz (Centennial), a junior at Washington and Lee, became only the third player in school history to reach the 1,000-point plateau with a 22-point burst against Roanoke. She's just 165 points from being the all-time leader at W&L. Besides leading the team in scoring with a 20.1 average, Mentz is second in rebounding (10.7) and is hitting 86 percent of her free throws (105-for-121).

Brian Pittinger (South Carroll), a senior pitcher for Elizabethtown (Pa.) College, is listed among the top returning players in NCAA Division III baseball by the Collegiate Baseball publication. Switching to relief pitching last season, Pittinger had a dozen saves with a 1.51 ERA.
