Police are investigating a shooting at a party at a Columbia hotel Saturday night -- Howard County's first homicide of the year -- that left one man dead and a teen-age girl in critical condition, police said.

Andre Devonne Corinaldi, 18, of the 8900 block of Watchlight Court in Columbia was killed in the shooting at the Courtyard by Marriott, 8910 Stanford Blvd., Cpl. Paul Yodzis said.

Lauren Nicole Perkins, 17, of the 700 block of Marioak Drive in Elkridge was in critical condition yesterday at Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.

After an argument during the party, several shots were fired from room 125 into room 123 through an adjoining door shortly before 11 p.m., Yodzis said. Corinaldi was pronounced dead at the scene, he said.

"We don't know if these were the intended victims or not," Yodzis said.

Police did not say whether they recovered a weapon.

Mike Walker, the hotel's general manager, said the hotel's occupancy was low Saturday night and the guests directly above the rooms were apparently the only people who heard the gunfire.

Anyone with information about the incident can call the police tip line at 410-313-2283 or speak to an officer at 410-313-3200.
