Host UMBC - led by Shalayna Johnson with 17 points - erased an early 16-point deficit and went on to defeat the Robert Morris, 61-59, in Northeast Conference women's basketball last night at the RAC Arena.

The win ended a four-game losing streak for the Retrievers. Each team shot 34 percent from the floor, but Robert Morris committed 20 turnovers, compared to nine by the Retrievers.

Trailing, 32-24, at halftime, the Retrievers (4-8, 2-1) outscored the Colonials (3-9, 0-3) 18-5 over the first 8:10 of the second half to grab a 44-37 advantage.

Johnson hit back-to-back three-point goals.

Mount St. Mary's 73, St. Francis (Pa.) 70: With the host Mount leading 70-68, Lauren Kokotajlo hit three of six free throws in the final 30 seconds to maintain the lead and win the Northeast Conference game at Knott Arena.

Senior Kia Williams (Largo) scored 23 points and had 13 rebounds for the Mount (3-9, 2-1).

Morgan State 93, Hampton 90: Sherie Cornish led five players in double digits with 22 as the Bears (3-7, 3-1) edged the visting Pirates (3-7, 2-2) in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference action.

Morgan held a 48-46 lead at the half by shooting 65.2 percent from the floor.

Hofstra 68, Towson 65: Sophomore guard Jen Brickey scored 14 of her game-high 20 in the second half as the Pride (4-8, 1-3) ended a six-game losing streak by edging the host Tigers (0-12, 0-4) in America East action.

York 84, Goucher 57: Despite a game-high 25 points from Jessica Young, the Gophers (4-6) lost to the Spartans in the consolation game of the 11th annual Days Inn Gettysburg Tournament.

Salisbury State 73, Gwynedd-Mercy 71: Tournament MVP Amy Campion and Elisabeth Barfuss each scored 20 to lift the Sea Gulls (9-2) over the host Griffins (8-2) in the championship of the Grotto Pizza/Lady Monarch Classic at Wilkes-Barre, Pa.

Christopher Newport 68, St. Mary's 54: Senior center Tenille McCatty (Largo) scored a game-high 20 in a losing effort for the Seahawks (2-8) in the consolation game of the Christopher Newport Invitational in Norfolk, Va.

Misericordia 57, Villa Julie 44: Kristy Boyd scored 18 to power the Cougars (5-3) past the host Mustangs (2-10) in the consolation game of the Legg Mason Winter Classic.

Immaculata 64, College of Notre Dame 55: Amanda Poppleton led all scorers with 20 in a losing effort for the Gators (3-6).
