In an article about Baltimore Fire Chief Herman Williams Jr. that appeared in yesterday's Maryland section, The Sun incorrectly reported the year in which the lowest number of city fire deaths were recorded, as well as the rate of the city's population decline. Baltimore's record low number of fire deaths was in 1999, when 19 people died. The city population has declned 10,000 residents a year during the past decade.

The name of Persumma Financial was misspelled in an article about 401(k) plans in Sunday's Business section.

The Sun regrets the errors.
