Tom Boettcher

Archbishop Curley, wrestling

The 145-pound junior defeated two state champions en route to capturing his third individual crown in as many seasons at the Arundel Holiday Tournament. Boettcher defeated Bryan Hamper of South Carroll in the semifinals and Fran Jackson of North Carroll, who retired with a knee injury, in the final. Boettcher has beaten three state champs, including Sam Lewnes of Mount St. Joseph in the Maryland Catholic Invitational that Boettcher won. A team captain, Boettcher is 14-2 with nine pins.

LaTonya Blue

St. Frances, basketball

A standout playmaker and leader, the 5-foot-9 senior point guard helped the fifth-ranked Panthers (7-2) to two victories at the Diamond State Classic in Wilmington, Del. The University of Virginia-bound Blue had nine points, seven assists and four steals in a 72-50 victory over Hillsboro, Tenn., and 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds in a 53-40 decision over Ursuline (Del.) Academy. The championship game was postponed until Jan. 14. An All-Metro selection last season, Blue is averaging 11 points, six assists and five rebounds.
