Three-alarm fire damages florist shop in Glen Burnie

GLEN BURNIE - A three-alarm fire tore through a Glen Burnie florist shop yesterday, closing Crain Highway for about three hours as firefighters doused the blaze.

The one-story building was in flames when Anne Arundel County firefighters responded to Wildflowers Inc. at 300 Crain Highway S.W. at 10:59 a.m., said Lt. Robert Rose, a county fire spokesman. The second alarm was declared at 11:01 a.m. and the third at 11:15 a.m. The 56 firefighters had the blaze under control by 11:26 a.m., Rose said.

A firefighter suffered a shoulder and neck strain, Rose said. No other injuries were reported. An adjoining business, Omni House Inc., suffered smoke damage, Rose said. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates were available.

Glen Burnie man killed when truck runs off road

GLEN BURNIE - A Glen Burnie man was killed yesterday morning when his truck went off a north county road on a curve, according to Anne Arundel County police.

Eric Scott Hanson, 21, of the 300 block of Shetlands Lane was driving a 2000 Dodge Ram pickup truck east on Elvaton Road past Foxwell Road at 4:38 a.m. when the vehicle crossed the road, traveled onto the westbound shoulder, striking a guardrail and a chain-link fence, police said. The truck hit a tree and a utility pole, police said.

Hanson was taken to North Arundel Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The accident is under investigation.

In Somerset County

State police investigate carjacking of woman

PRINCESS ANNE - State police are investigating a carjacking that occurred in Princess Anne on Saturday night.

Beverly Nicole Dorsey, 26, of Westover was stopped about 7 p.m. at U.S. 13 and Route 363 when a woman entered her car through an unlocked passenger door, put a gun to her shoulder and forced her to drive away, police said.

About 12:45 a.m. yesterday, the woman let Dorsey out of the car in Fruitland, where the victim walked to a gas station and called police. The woman was last seen traveling in the victim's car - a white 1993 Nissan Sentra with Maryland license plate HVH 560 - on southbound Route 13 toward the Wicomico-Somerset County line, police said. Anyone with information should call state police at 410-651-3101.
