Government offices are planning to close for Christmas holiday

Carroll County Government offices will be closed tomorrow in observance of Christmas.

Offices will reopen at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Northern Landfill and the Recycling Center will be closed tomorrow and reopen Tuesday.

Carroll County public libraries and senior centers also will be closed tomorrow.

Carroll County public schools will be closed through Jan. 1 and reopen Jan. 2.

County plans hearing, meeting on zoning law

Carroll County commissioners will hold a public hearing at 10 a.m. Jan. 3 in Room 300A of the County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster, to hear comments on a proposed zoning ordinance about distance requirements.

Before the hearing at 9 a.m. Thursday in Room 300A, county staff will answer questions and receive comments on the proposed ordinance. This informal meeting is not a substitute for the public hearing.

Anyone needing a sign interpreter should call 410-386-3500 or TTY 410-848-9747 at least five days in advance of the public hearing.

The proposed ordinance may be reviewed and copies obtained at the office of the county clerk in Room 300 of the County Office Building during business hours. Copies also are available for review at county library branches.

Written comments may be addressed to the county clerk and will be considered if received by the close of the hearing.

Carroll to hold hearing on local codes of law

The Carroll County commissioners will hold a public hearing on the "Code of Public Local Laws and Ordinances of Carroll County" at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 3 in Room 300A of the County Office Building, 225 N. Center St., Westminster.

The commissioners will take comments and consider the adoption of a proposed ordinance to create a single volume code book.

The book would codify county ordinances and resolutions and would include the "2000 Edition of the Code of Public Laws of Carroll County."

If adopted, the book would be the official code of Carroll County.

The "Code of Public Local Laws and Ordinances of Carroll County" is available for review at the office of the county attorney during regular business hours and at all branches of the Carroll County Public Library. Copies may be obtained from the office of the county clerk in Room 300 of the County Office Building.

Library is sponsoring mitten tree at 5 branches

Carroll County Public Library is once again sponsoring Corky's Mitten Tree at all five branches around the county.

People are invited to donate handmade or newly purchased gloves, scarves and hats to decorate Corky's trees.

Donations will be accepted through Jan. 2. All items will be given to Human Services Programs of Carroll County for its Neighbors in Need Program.
