The death of a woman whose skeletal remains were found behind an East Baltimore business last week has been ruled a homicide, and Baltimore police are struggling to identify the victim, described as a white woman in her 40s.
Detectives say they have several clues in the death of the woman, whose remains were found Dec. 15 behind B-Way International in the 800 block of Rolyn Ave.
The state medical examiner ruled the woman's death a homicide Thursday, but police would not release the cause of death.
Detective Gregory MacGillivary said the woman was wearing a burgundy T-shirt. The T-shirt featured the words "Wynn Family Reunion" and listed several children ("James, Dock, Jessie, Nick, Chief, Corinia and Bessie") of "Joseph and Estelle Wynn," MacGillivary said.
The woman was wearing size-7 white Reebok tennis shoes and a pair of size-8 jeans with zippers on each cuff. The woman also had a metal plate implanted in her left leg below the knee, MacGillivary said.
The body was put behind a trailer in the back of B-Way about a year ago, MacGillivary said. An employee moved the trailer and another employee spotted the body about 8 a.m. and called police, MacGillivary said.
The medical examiner called in an Army forensic expert to help reconstruct the body and find a cause of death, MacGillivary said. That expert, William C. Rodriguez of the Institute of Pathology in Washington, declined to discuss the case yesterday.
"We need to know who she is and who killed her," MacGillivary said. Anyone with information is asked to call homicide detectives at 410-396-2100.
