Entrepreneurial seminars offered at business center
The Maryland Small Business Development Center and the Howard County Business Resource Center will sponsor a seminar for entrepreneurs, "The First Steps to Starting Your Own Business," from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 10 at the Center for Business & Technology Development, 9250 Bendix Road North, Columbia. The cost is $15 in advance; $20 at the door.
The center will offer "Marketing Basics: How to Promote Your Company for Business Growth," from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 16. The cost is $45 in advance; $60 at the door.
"Navigating the Certification Maze," a seminar for minority and small business owners interested in qualifying for federal, state, county, Washington Airport Authority and city certification programs, will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 18. The cost is $50.
"Developing Your First Business Plan," a program co-sponsored by the Jim Rouse Entrepreneurial Fund, will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 23 and 24. The two-session course costs $60 in advance; $70 at the door, and includes a 75-page course manual and sample business plan.

Innovative Speech Therapy giving introductory lecture
Innovative Speech Therapy, founded by Joan Green, will give a free introductory lecture and demonstration from 10 a.m. to noon Jan. 25 at Florence Bain Senior Center, 5470 Ruth Keeton Way, Columbia.
IST incorporates computer use and community involvement into daily routines for stroke victims and others with communication problems.
The company's speech pathologists make home visits.
The presentation is sponsored by the National Stroke Association, The Howard County Stroke Club and the Office on Aging.
