State board awards contracts to renovate Baltimore Zoo

December 15, 2000|BY A SUN STAFF WRITER

ANNAPOLIS - Plans for a renovated and modernized Baltimore Zoo moved closer to reality yesterday when the state Board of Public Works awarded two contracts totaling $41 million.

Valley Crest Landscape Inc. of Calabasas, Calif., won a $40.2 million contract for construction management, which includes $164,000 for pre-construction services and $40 million for construction. Edward D. Stone Jr. & Associates of Orlando, Fla., will earn $800,000 for the design and preparation of landscape architecture documents.

FOR THE RECORD - In Friday's editions, The Sun incorrectly reported that the state Board of Public Works had approved two contracts totaling $41 million for renovations at the Baltimore Zoo. In fact, the board is scheduled to consider funding for those contracts at its meeting tomorrow.
The Sun regrets the errors.

Officials envision a $60 million project to transform the nation's third-oldest zoo into a regional tourist attraction.
