Investment firm from Columbia opens office in California

Optical Capital Group, a Columbia-based firm that invests in optical networking technology companies, has announced the opening of a San Francisco office.

The office is directed by Max Straube, who joined the company as president and managing director of private equity, along with Dick Filippini, who serves as associate director of private equity.

The office was opened to help identify strategic opportunities on the West Coast.

Homeownership workshop is scheduled for Saturday

The Affordable Housing Alliance Inc., in cooperation with Wells Fargo Mortgage Inc., will offer a free homeownership workshop for first-time and economically disadvantaged homebuyers from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Amerix Corp., 8930 Stanford Blvd., Columbia.

Registration is at 9:30 a.m. Participants may register for confidential homeownership, debt management and credit-counseling sessions at the Affordable Housing Center, 4785 Dorsey Hall Drive, Ellicott City.

Construction industry grant applicants sought

The Building Congress & Exchange Foundation Inc. is seeking applications for its grant program.

Applicants must promote, support, conduct or participate in educational programs related to the construction industry, or assist with building projects that contribute to the development of the industry in Maryland.
